Three players are dealt cards from a standard 52-card deck. The dealer gets 13 cards; the other two players get 12 cards each. The remaining cards form the draw pile in the centre.
On your turn, you either draw the top card from the pile or pick up the card discarded by the previous player. You must then discard one card from your hand to the discard pile.
Lay down valid card combinations — called melds — from your hand onto the table. Valid melds include three or more cards of the same rank (a "set") or three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (a "sequence").
You can add matching cards to existing melds on the table — yours or your opponents'. This move, called "Sapaw," is key to managing your hand and reducing your card count.
Win by discarding your final card ("Tongits!") or by calling a "Fight" when the draw pile runs out. In a Fight, the player with the lowest point value in their unmelded cards wins the round.
